SYSTEMATIC COW MONITORING IN ROBOTIC MILKING

Last month at the Precision Dairy Conference, Jeffrey Bewley identified these “Key Success Criteria for Technologies.” 1) Begin with basic understanding of cow biology and needs; 2) Reliability and accuracy in real-world settings; 3) Ease of use and integration into farm routines; 4) Cost-effectiveness and ROI; 5) Ability to provide actionable insights; 5) Proven performance through case studies. Many of these criteria were involved in a recent farm discussion as we tried to figure out how cow 8855 slipped through the cracks. The “Ability to provide actionable insights” and “Begin with a basic understanding of cow biology” were important to systematic cow monitoring in this robotic milking situation.
