Last month at the Precision Dairy Conference, Jeffrey Bewley identified these “Key Success Criteria for Technologies.” 1) Begin with basic understanding of cow biology and needs; 2) Reliability and accuracy in real-world settings; 3) Ease of use and integration into farm routines; 4) Cost-effectiveness and ROI; 5) Ability to provide actionable insights; 5) Proven performance through case studies. Many of these criteria were involved in a recent farm discussion as we tried to figure out how cow 8855 slipped through the cracks. The “Ability to provide actionable insights” and “Begin with a basic understanding of cow biology” were important to systematic cow monitoring in this robotic milking situation.
